Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Surveys
A refurbishment survey and demolition is required before any invasive work is carried out within a property.
The information on the presence of asbestos containing materials contained within the Asbestos Management Survey will not be sufficient, as the purpose of this level of survey is likely to involve invasive and destructive inspections to confirm the presence or absence of concealed asbestos containing materials.

This level of survey should be undertaken within occupied spaces.
This type of survey must be tailored and specific to the scope of works that are taking place. The presumption is that any asbestos containing materials will be removed as part of the enabling for the subsequent refurbishment and demolition.
It is critical that the extent of the survey is limited to extent of the refurbishment to avoid any damage to the building where are not being worked upon- this is especially the case in listed building.

A refurbishment and/or demolition survey may also be required in other circumstances, e.g. when more intrusive maintenance and repair work will be carried out or for plant removal or dismantling.
